Humanity Is One Organism

Edi Bilimoria on consciousness, karma, compassion, and what our individual lives may mean for the whole.

Who are we? Why are we here? And what if those questions can’t be answered by looking at ourselves separately?
In this episode of Connecting with Coincidence, Bernard Beitman, MD speaks with award-winning author, engineer, and consciousness researcher Edi Bilimoria about some of Humanity’s oldest questions — and why ancient wisdom traditions may still have something important to tell us about our future.
Drawing from decades of study across science, philosophy, and Eastern and Western mystery traditions, Edi describes Humanity as something more than billions of separate people. He invites us to imagine the human species as a single living organism, with each person functioning like a cell within a much larger whole.
From that perspective, our individual choices take on greater significance. Conflict, polarization, and disconnection do not affect only the people immediately involved. Just as the health of individual cells shapes the health of a body, the quality of our thoughts, actions, and relationships may influence the larger human system.
Bernard and Edi explore karma as part of this process — not as punishment, but as a law of learning. Every choice produces consequences and experiences from which we can grow. Edi also discusses near-death experiences and the possibility that they offer glimpses of a deeper moral structure in which we encounter the effects our actions have had on others.
The conversation then turns from the mind to the heart.
For Edi, Humanity’s most important emerging capacity may not be psychic ability or extraordinary states of consciousness. It may be compassion. The heart, he argues, represents a deeper center of human life—one capable of moving us beyond separateness and toward greater awareness of our connection with one another.
That possibility leads back to the episode’s central question. If Humanity truly functions as an interconnected organism, then human evolution is not simply about becoming smarter, more technologically capable, or individually successful. It is also about learning to live in ways that strengthen the whole.
Perhaps our purpose is not only to discover who we are as individuals, but to recognize what we are together.
