Examining the evidence that communication continues beyond death.
In this week’s Connecting with Coincidence podcast, philosopher Sharon Rawlette provides us with clear evidence that minds survive death.
Apparitions, mediums, near-death experiences (NDEs), and reincarnation form the background for evidence from synchronicities of living beyond death. A key lesson: when that butterfly or bird feels like a loved one is communicating with you, enjoy the exchange of love. Try to avoid analyzing.
As a lead-in to each week’s podcast, I like to tell a coincidence story of my own. Here’s one that’s both meaningful and served as a reminder to be careful:
I love dancing. Here in Charlottesville, our freeform version is based on five rhythms, starting slow, going fast, ending slow. Move however you feel. Things happen on the dance floor. Energy gets exchanged, feelings awakened, connections made. About a year ago, a wonderful new dancer appeared, and slowly over time we danced. Amazingly wonderful. And so it continued. My heart opened up to her. She asked me to go for a walk with her. I readily agreed, knowing that outside the dance floor, relationships can be treacherous. I suggested a time and day. I also texted her that I did not want to get hurt again. She said she would never hurt me. Okay. She loves poetry and sent me one she was working on. The title: “All Relationships End in Heartbreak.” The coincidence of my fear of being hurt and this poem served as a warning to me to not proceed. Did I heed the warning? Yes! Bolstered by the advice and support of several friends. That walk did not happen.
My podcast guest this week is Sharon Hewitt Rawlette, a philosopher and interdisciplinary researcher specializing in anomalous phenomena and their implications for our understanding of consciousness.
Sharon earned her PhD in philosophy from New York University in 2008 and taught at Brandeis University before leaving academia for an independent writing career. Her books include The Source and Significance of Coincidences, The Supreme Victory of the Heart: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and Synchronicity (2020), and Beyond Death: The Best Evidence for the Survival of Human Consciousness (2021), which was a runner-up in the Bigelow Institute for Consciousness Studies (BICS) 2021 essay contest.
